Elections
The RIAFP is excited to announce the new President and President-elect! There was a special election held on Friday, March 7th during the 2025 Rhode Island Primary Care Conference in which the membership elected the following leaders: Christopher Klaus, MD, as President, and Katharina de Klerk, DO as President-elect. The term length starts immediately from March 2025-March 2026. We look forward to their leadership!
As we look ahead, the RIAFP General Elections is officially live! Several leadership positions are open, and we encourage all eligible members to consider applying.
Open Positions for General Elections:
- Chair of the Education Committee
- Chair of the Advocacy Committee
- Chair of the Communications Committee
- Six (6) At-Large Board Member Seats (up to 2 of these seats may be held by Public Members)
- Two (2) Congress of Delegates Alternate Delegate Seats
Election Process & Key Dates:
- Application Deadline: Friday, April 12, 2025
- Board Selection: The final selection will take place during the General Board Meeting on April 23, 2025
- Eligibility: All applicants must be current, active members of both the RIAFP and the AAFP
For full details on position responsibilities and election procedures, please review our Bylaws and the RIAFP Elections Guide.
Please also note that there have been changes to our Bylaws relating to the AAFP Congress of Delegates (COD) Delegate and Alternate Delegate positions – you can review the full changes here. In short, there will be no automatic succession from Alternate Delegate to full Delegate, the term length for each of these positions will now be 2 years, and the term limit for each will be 8 years. We will honor the old system for this upcoming election cycle, so there will be no specific election of AAFP COD Delegate in 2025, but there will be in 2026.
We encourage you to step forward and take an active role in shaping the future of the RIAFP. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you once again for your continued dedication to family medicine. We look forward to your participation in the upcoming elections!
