About us
The Rhode Island Academy of Family Physicians (RIAFP) is an affiliate of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the largest primary care organization in the United States. The RIAFP has over 300 members, including physicians, residents, and medical students.
Our organization works toward the advancement of family medicine through philanthropy, using humanitarian, educational, and scientific programming to improve health.
The RIAFP Foundation is a scientific, educational, and a charitable foundation. It was approved by the Internal Revenue Service in 2022 as a 501(c)(3) organization. Under this designation, it may “promote health and welfare in the community by engaging in charitable, educational and scientific activities related to the field of medicine.” The RIAFP Foundation may receive gifts from any individual or organization, and donations are tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
The RIAFP supports ongoing physician education through workshops and conferences for residents in primary care, while advocating for public policy to continue the improvement of the healthcare system for physicians, patients and students. We work with the Rhode Island Medical Society (RIMS) and the Rhode Island Department of Health, to achieve those aims.
Family Medicine Leads Scholarships to FUTURE are provided by the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation. Family Medicine Leads focuses on filling the workforce pathway with the best and brightest, as well as supporting the development of future family medicine leaders.
All scholarships are made possible by the donations of family physicians across the country.
In 2026, at least 250 scholarships will be awarded to attend FUTURE July 30–August 1 in Kansas City, Missouri.
